A Distinctive Audition Process

An authentic audition process needs a heart and gut-centered approach.

While many coaches take a “quick fix” approach to the process, building skills is essential for audition success.

Lea teaches techniques that work. That bring you to life and make you sparkle.

She excavates your personal gold. Makes sure you fully understand it. And then helps you show the world what makes you shine.

She offers support for the entire process. Not just the five minutes in the room.

What Students Have to Say

Musical performance from the Colburn School

Although no one can control the ethereal and random nature of college audition outcomes, an actor must be in top-form to be truly IN the game.

Lea helps students to root out fears that block their processes. She helps them to become the boldest, and most truthful, open and centered versions of themselves.

At coaching sessions, Lea is lovingly supportive, but tough.

She works like a diagnostician, using a range of professional acting techniques, as she zeroes in and works to feature a students' strengths and shift areas that are weak.

No matter what the audition may be, building skills is the first step to success.  A student actor must learn to get out of the brain and into the body. Lea uses unique techniques to achieve this, even as she works with students to craft a sophisticated, stylish and truthful audition piece.

But an effective coaching session cannot stop there.

Other essential skills include:

  • Being authentic

  • Managing “nerves”

  • Truthful and appropriate contact with auditioners

  • Waiting room skills

  • Protocol for following up

BFA, MFA & COMPETITION PREP

Acceptance into one of Lea’s coaching slots is by interview only.

This takes the form of a private session and runs about an hour.

She is currently taking a VERY limited number of private BFA/MFA coaching students each year. (She needs to allow time for her working pros and wants all of her students to have plentiful access to her.)

When her daughter first started college audition prep, Lea was surprised to find that the coach simply handed out monologues that had nothing to do with her daughter. Lea was certain there was a better way.

Schools respond to sophisticated skills. Lea uses classes and privates to shift students’ skills and make them great candidates for even the most rigorous schools. A targeted combination of class & private coaching is the best prep for succeeding in those auditions.

Lea understands the power of a well-chosen monologue. She and her students meticulously pour through monologues together, reading them aloud until they discover what is personally needed. Then they follow that thread until they find a perfect, energetic fit.

The results are monologues that fully represent you and show you at your very best.

In coaching, Lea’s motto is leave no stone unturned. Anything that is in the way of getting you chosen, she will notice. And if you want to change what is in the way, Lea can help you out.
